What's Atlanta Thinking?

If you have found this spot on the internet then you know the disaster that Atlanta has created by moving their August market dates to overlap Dallas.
I have been in the apparel business for 20 plus years and this is the worst maneuver I have seen. It makes no sense and will hurt everyone no matter what category of product.
They claim that it's a hotel issue but check it out as I have done and you will find plenty of hotel rooms available during their original dates. This is bad business and we can't stand for it. This is lose-lose for manufacturers, sales reps, and for retailers.Don't stand by and let this happen. This is a disaster that can be avoided. We shouldn't have to split our lines and our staff. We can band together and get Atlanta to change their August market back to August 12-15.
The power is with us to make this happen quickly rather than later. Please click on Post a Comment and add your voice to the manufacturers, reps and retailers who are not going to stand for this situation. And thanks for your help.

Another manufacturer I know was told that they will take whatever show dates they think are best and aren't concerned with overlapping New York, Dallas or any other show.

I found out after asking around that the markets get together to set dates in advance. Why can't they keep their word? They are crazy if they think I will sit back and do nothing while my business suffers.

This date conflict exists for 2008 as well as 2007! This is a nightmare and we need to stick together

Atlanta has set their January and August 2008 dates on top of Dallas so it does not just stop with August 2007. They need to understand that "this is not all about them"!!

I went right to Hank and my Atlanta contact person the minute we found out that the dates were changed. Not only does this not make sense and interfere with Dallas for August but the change of dates for October that they made in January overlaps the show in NY. Their answer to me was this: We have moved our dates for Dallas for years. We are now the number 1 market out there let Dallas move. NOT SO ATLANTA....Dallas still has you beat by a mile. On top of that all there cherry picking to get buyers from out of territory will now most likely backfire, because when you have dates that coincide a store most likely will not travel out of territory.

WE HAVE 39 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS. YOUR FAILURE TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF REALLY TELLS A READER THAT YOU ARE SELF-SERVING! IF YOU NEED TO COVER MULTIPLE MARKETS, YOU SHOULD HAVE
TOP-SHELF SHOWHELP TO COVER SITUATIONS OR CONSIDER HIRING A TOP-FLIGHT REP. THERE CERTAINLY ARE PLENTY OF GREAT REPS IN ATLANTA & DALLAS. SOUNDS TO ME THAT YOU WANT EVERYTHING TO BE YOUR WAY. YOU NEED TO BE ON WORLDWIDE DATE COMMITTEES TO SOLVE
YOUR PROBLEM. THAT WAY NOTHING WILL INTERFERE WITH YOUR SCHEDULE.

this has gotten out of control.
business is tough enough, and now this.
shame on them.

Ya'll have got to be kidding. Having permanent showrooms in to Dallas, LA and Atlanta; Dallas is the biggest joke for a Market I've ever seen. The management is difficult at best and downright anti-business at worst. They require mountains of paperwork for retailers to "prove" they are retail and their attendance is 1/2 to 1/3 of Atlanta's. Our Sales numbers have been 10 to 1 for Atl vs. Dallas and 8 to 1 Atl vs. LA for they last 5 years running.

Atlanta is in no way perfect, but they are head and shoulders above any other Market in the US and probably the world. Being #1 should have it's previlages and all other markets should set dates around them....not the other way around.

Let's not lose sight about who is important and what dates are correct. If we all showed up and there were NO BUYERS, we would all be out of business if we only depended on show business. We met with Lawton Hall and he listened to our buyers comments on a survey we took in April 2007. It's not about manufactueres or reps, but what the BUYER needs to succeed in business.

What's the point???? It's a lose, lose situation.

ENOUGH ALREADY...CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!! I'VE BEEN A VENDOR (BASED OUT OF NYC) IN WOMEN'S ACCESSORIES FOR THE PASS 20 YEARS. DALLAS IS MY BEST REGINAL MARKET.PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!SO THAT MEANS ALTANTA IS JUST GOING TO GET
LESS SAMPLES....WHILE DALLAS HAS A FULL LINE. SHAME ON YOU ATLANTA.
NOBODY LIKES A BULLY!!!
